Love: Flame & Ember

by M. Joseph Boehler

Dear Friend,

Consider romantic love not as a single static entity, but as a succession of stages: each distinct, each shaped by the people who share it. No two loves ever duplicate one another, every partnership bears the unique imprint of its participants.

Love, like us, changes and evolves. It is not a switch we simply flip on or off; it is an intricate act that demands effort, understanding, and sacrifice. When it first ignites, love can feel like a roaring inferno, infatuation floods us, and we are swept up in a blaze of excitement. The heart races, the mind dazzles, and the world seems to pulse in sync with that sudden heat.

As time passes, that fierce fire often settles into a bed of glowing embers: a steady warmth that lies just beneath the surface. This flame is always ready to reignite, but it now asks for attention, patience, and the right ingredients to stay alive. Simple gestures: a shared smile, a hand held, a quiet evening spent listening, become the tinder that keeps the ember glowing.

The point, then, is that love is a journey, not a destination. It is an adventure that deepens through care and commitment, a dynamic process that rewards as much as it challenges. Think back on experiences: the way love taught us openness, how a later partnership taught us humility, and how each chapter reshaped the person we became. Those shifts remind us that love is as much about who we grow into as it is about who we love.

Love is beautiful precisely because of those complexities. Strive to nurture the flame, embracing the art of loving deeply and authentically, recognize that the most enduring heat comes not from reckless passion alone, but from the steady, intentional care we extend to one another.

Warmly,

M. Joseph Boehler
